Kearns Equals Best Race Time as Devils Place Fifth at Cabrini Invitational

Freshman Abby Kearns equaled her fastest collegiate 5,000-meter time as the University of the Sciences women's cross country team took fifth place at Saturday's Cabrini Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.

The Devils finished the race with 119 points, 38 behind fourth place Rutgers-Camden.   Philadelphia University won the meet with 51 points while Wilmington University was second with 73 and Georgian Court University third with 76.

Kearns completed the 5,000-meter course in 20:54, equaling her time in her last race at Goldey-Beacom.  Abby also becomes just the third women's cross country runner in program history to run the Belmont course in less than 21 minutes, joining Chrissy Woodruff (3x CACC MVP) and Joy Aifuwa (4x All-CACC), the two most decorated runners in school history.  Kearns' time placed her 14th overall.

Sophomores Kristin Waters and Jordan Lyons were the next two Devils to finish, placing 24th and 25th with times of 21:56 and 22:05.  Juniors Jessica Kaminski and Kimberly Brown rounded out the Devils top five with times of 22:58 (34th place) and 23:03 (36th place).

A pair of seniors completed Sciences top seven for this particular race with Allison Dargay finishing 42nd overall with a time of 23:15.35 and Alyssa Hamm placing 47th with a time of 23:53.  Freshman Emily Schwartz finished right behind Hamm in 48th place with a time of 23:56.

The women's cross country team's next race will be the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championships held at Belmont Plateau on November 7, 2010.
