Waters Named to the Philadelphia Area All Academic Team
Philadelphia, Pa. (1/18/11) – University of the Sciences women's cross country runner Kristin Waters was amongst the seven female athletes named to the 2010 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country Team as announced on today.
Waters (West Genesee High School/Syracuse, N.Y.), a second-year pharmacy major, has earned Dean's List honors in each of her three semesters at the University of the Sciences and currently has a 3.760 grade point average. Kristen was named to the USTFCCCA Division II All-Academic Team in January 2010 for her performance in the classroom and at the NCAA Regional meet.
One of the Devils most consistent runners in 2010, Waters competed in each of the Devils six regular season races along with the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship and NCAA East Region Championship meets. Kristin had her best 5,000-meter time of the season at the CACC championship, finishing 18th overall with a time of 21:39. Two weeks later she ran her fastest 6,000-meter time ever, 25:55 at the NCAA East Regional, placing 94th overall in a field of over 200 runners. Waters was the Devils second or third finisher on the team throughout the season.
Joining Waters on the Philadelphia Area All-Academic Team is Area Performer of the Year and the NCAA Division I individual national champion Sheila Reid of Villanova University; Reid's teammates Amanda Martino and Ali Smith; Stephanie Bearish (La Salle University); three-time honoree Robin England of Rutgers-Camden and two time honoree Sarah Simonetti of Philadelphia University. Kristin is the fourth women's runner from the University of the Sciences to earn Area All-Academic honors in the programs' six year history. Of the 32 runners honored since 2005, only Villanova University has honored more with seven runners making the teams over the years. La Salle and Haverford College also have had four runners honored.
The former West Genesee High School athlete recently completed her second season of competition for the Devils. Waters is majoring in pharmacy while pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and is on track to graduate from the University of the Sciences in 2015.
