Women Harriers Place Sixth at CACC Champs; Move on to NCAA Regional Meet
Jordan Lyons and Kim Brown ran their fastest 5,000-meter race of their careers as the University of the Sciences women's cross country team fought their way to a sixth place finish at this year's Central Atlantic collegiate conference (CACC) Championship meet.
The Devils finished with 175 points, 15 behind fifth place Nyack College. Philadelphia University captured its fourth straight title with 28 points.
Lyons completed the 5K course in 21:16.18, 21 seconds faster then her previous best time set at last year's CACC Championship. The junior harrier placed 18th overall. Brown also broke the 22-minute mark, finishing 27th overall with a time of 21:57.54, beating her previous PR of 22:12 set two weeks ago at the Goldey-Beacom Fall Classic race. Kim's time was also 24 seconds better then her previous best time at Belmont.
Junior Kristin Waters was the third USciences runner to finish, placing 40th overall with a time of 23:04.71. Freshman Melissa Humble was 43rd with a time of 23:32 and senior Jessica Kaminski rounded out the Devils top five finishers, placing 47th overall with a time of 23:55.19.
A pair of newcomers rounded out the Devils competitors in the race as third-year student Terry Pak placed 66th overall with a time of 26:22 and true freshman Jen O'Laughlin was 67th with a time of 26:26.
Next up for the women's team will be the NCAA East regional race at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts on November 6, 2011.
