USciences Announces 2011 Women's and Men's Cross Country Schedule
The University of the Sciences Athletic Department has announced their Men's and Women's Cross Country schedule for the upcoming 2011 season. Five regular season meets highlight the schedule which begins on Saturday, September 3, 2011.
Kicking off the season, the Devils will compete at the Delaware Valley College Invitational in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on September 3, with the women team starting the action with a 6,000-meter race followed by the men's 8,000-meter race. The Devils will then compete at the Wilmington University Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware on September 10. The women will race at 5,000-meters while the men, their traditional 8K race.
Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia is the location for the Devils' next meet, the Philadelphia Metro Championships on September 24. The men's and women's harriers travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for their next meet, the prestigious Paul Short Invitational, held on Friday, September 30. USciences rounds out their regular season at Carousel Park for the Goldey-Beacom Fall Classic. The Devils won the team titles in both the women's and men's race at last years race and are looking for a repeat as they head into post-season competition.
The Devils will be in familiar surroundings for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship meet on Sunday, October 23 as Belmont Plateau will again be the site of the championship races. A strong showing from the Devils at the conference meet will propel them to the NCAA East Regional Championships held in Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts on November 6.
In 2010, the men's team recorded top five finishes in four of their six regular season races, including winning the team title at Goldey Beacom and a runner-up finish at Wilmington. The Devils placed fourth at the CACC Championships and 19th at he NCAA East Regional Championship meet. The women's team had top ten finishes in five of their six regular season meets including their Goldey-Beacom title as well as a runner-up finish at Wilmington. The women harriers placed fifth at the CACC Championship and 21st at the NCAA East Regional meet.
