Devils Take Third at Wilmington Invitational

The University of the Sciences women's cross country team recorded their second straight top ten finish of the 2011 season with a third place effort in Saturday's 11th annual Wilmington University Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware.

USciences finished with 79 points securing their third place finish.  Host Wilmington placed second with 47 points while Georgian Court University, a late addition to the meet lineup took home the first place plaque with a score of 38 points. Nine colleges had runners competing in the race. 

Junior Jordan Lyons led the way for the Devils, placing sixth overall with a time of 22:09, outkicking a Wilmington runner down the stretch.  Senior Kim Brown recorded her best time ever on the Wilmington Carousel course, placing tenth overall with a time of 22:48.19. 

A trio of freshman rounded out the Devils top five finishers.  Jen O'Laughlin was 20th overall with a time of 23:50.86.  Melissa Humble followed with a time of 23:58.93 placing 21st and Shreena Chopra was 26th with a time of 24:20.23.  All three were running in their first ever collegiate 5,000-meter race. 

Two seniors completed the Devils top seven finishers as Jess Kaminski placed 27th overall with a time of 25:00.96 and Unicel-Anne Flores was 29th with a time of 25:27.00.   A third senior Emily Christiansen turned in her best 5K racing time of her career, finishing in 34th place with a time of 26:00.08, over a full minute better than her previous best of 27:11, set on this same course last season. 

The Devils return to action on Saturday, September 24, 2011 when they compete for the first time this season at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia at the Philadelphia Metro Championships.
