Devils Take Third Place at Philadelphia Metro Meet

Another week, another third place finish for the University of the Sciences women's cross country team.  The Devils went head to head with 19 schools and placed third at the 36th Annual Philadelphia Metro Championship at Belmont Plateau on Saturday. 

USciences also took third at last week's Wilmington Invitational and were third at last year's Metro meet.  The Devils scored 94 points on Saturday, 47 points better than fourth place Franklin Pierce University and 36 points behind second place Nyack College.   Philadelphia University won the meet for the eighth straight year with 46 points. 

The Devils placed their top three runners amongst the top 20 finishers overall, with freshman Regan Asay (Ridge HS/Basking Ridge, N.J.) leading the way.  Asay placed third overall with a personal-best 5,000-meter time of 21:14.2. Seniors Brianna Ligotski (Holy Redeemer HS/Hanover Twp., Pa.) and Grace John (Council Rock North HS/Newtown, Pa.) were the next two Devils to finish.  Ligotski was 12th overall with a time of 21:55.2 while John was 16th with a time of 22:17.5 

Rounding out the Devils top five finishers were sophomore Jessica Fraone (Oakcrest HS/Mays Landing, N.J.) and freshman Emily Brand (Whitehall HS/Whitehall, Pa.).  Fraone was 31st overall with a time of 22:54.9 while Brand ran a personal best time of 23:03.3 and placed 34th overall.  

Sophomores Samantha Frear (Tunkhannock HS/Factoryville, Pa.) and Mily Shah (Eastern HS/Voorhees, N.J.) completed the Devils top seven, placing 45th and 46th overall respectively.  Frear finished in 23:42.4 while Shah crossed the line in 23:48.8.  Bridget Houghton (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Newtown Square, Pa.) was 54th overall with a time of 24:24.5 and Alyse Parker (Highland Regional HS/Clementon, N.J.) battled through leg and ankle issues to cross the line in 27:35.1. 

The Devils return to action on Saturday, September 26, 2015 when they travel to Delaware and Carousel Park for the Goldey-Beacom College Invitational.
