ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – A three-run Madison LaPlante home run momentarily gave the USciences softball team a lead in the third inning of game one, but Dominican immediately answered en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Devils on Sunday.
The Chargers held off University of the Sciences 4-3 in the opener, before taking game two 7-0.
Dominican scored first in the second inning of game one, but LaPlante's three-run homer with two outs in the top of the third put USciences on top 3-1.
Dominican immediately came back with three runs in the bottom-half though, all of which came with two away. A two-out walk was followed by a home run to tie the game, before three consecutive two-out hits led to the eventual game-winning run.
Rodriguez doubled with one out in the fifth, but that was as close as University of the Sciences would come to threatening a tying run.
Rodriguez finished game one 1-for-1 with the walk, and she also drew a base on balls in the nightcap.
LaPlante had a single in game two to finish with a hit in both games.
University of the Sciences returns home to host Bloomfield for a doubleheader this Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
