NEW HAVEN, Conn. – University of the Sciences women's basketball senior Alex Thomas has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week after averaging a near double-double of 19.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, as the Devils went 3-0 last week to extend their win streak to nine.
The honor is senior's first CACC Player of the Week nod this season and the fourth of her career. In total, she has six weekly awards from the league (One DPOW, One ROW).
Thomas scored at least 18 points and grabbed at least seven rebounds in all three contests, while also adding four assists and four steals. She began the week with her second career double-double, scoring 18 points while leading all players with a career-high 12 rebounds at Caldwell on Monday.
She then made 6-of-7 3-pointers as part of her game-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, adding a team-high seven boards, against Georgian Court on Wednesday.
Thomas closed out the week falling one carom shy of her second double-double in five days - after only recording one in her first three and a half years as a Devil - at CACC North leader Dominican on Saturday. The senior led the contest in both scoring and rebounding with 19 points and nine rebounds, as USciences came back to win in overtime.
University of the Sciences (20-1, 11-1 CACC) faces off with undefeated and No. 2 Jefferson (20-0, 11-0) tomorrow, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. inside of Bobby Morgan Arena.
