Women’s Tennis Advances to CACC Semifinals with Comeback Win Over Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA – After dropping two-of-three doubles matches, the University of the Sciences women's tennis team stormed back to win four of the first five singles matches to overcome Jefferson and advance to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Semifinals for the second consecutive year with a 5-3 triumph over Jefferson in the First Round on Tuesday afternoon at the McNeil Tennis Courts.

Danielle Paran and Elkanah Linder were the lone USciences pair to win, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, for what was their eight straight victory to move into the team lead with an 11-2 record.

Announced as the repeat CACC Player of the Year earlier in the day, Karla Miletic began the comeback with a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 1 singles to improve to a team-best 11-2 on the season.

Jefferson momentarily went back on top with a win at No. 2 singles, but Abbygail Gamarnik evened the match back up at 3-3 with a 7-5, 6-3 defeat of her third flight opponent. The result moved the junior into a tie for fifth in program history with 24 career victories as she moved to second on the team at 7-7 on the year.

With the momentum on University of the Sciences' side as the second group of singles matches began, Julia James gave the Devils their first lead as she dropped just three games at the fifth flight for her third straight win to move over .500 at 6-5 on the year.

Paran followed suit, dropping just three games of her own at No. 4 singles, to clinch USciences' spot in the Semifinals as shed move to .500 at 5-5.

The CACC Semifinals and Championship will be hosted by Post University in Middlebury, Conn. on Oct. 20-21. University of the Sciences will take on No. 1 seed Goldey-Beacom in the Semifinals on Friday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m., with the winner set to take on the winner of No. 2 Concordia and No. 3 Wilmington in Saturday's Championship.
