Miletic and Novak Voted on to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team; Miletic Named Performer of the Year

Women's Release | Men's Release

PHILADELPHIA – Karla Miletic and Borna Novak of the University of the Sciences tennis program have both been voted on to the 2017-18 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team, it was announced on Monday.

Miletic was also voted the Women's Tennis Performer of the Year by the sports information offices of the 31 area institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

USciences has now had two student-athletes voted Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Peformers of the year for their respective sports, as women's basketball's Sarah Abbonizio received the honor in April.

Miletic posted her fourth consecutive 4.0 GPA semester to begin her academic career at USciences in Spring 2018. A physics major, she was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Academic Team in her first season of eligibility in the fall.

On the court, she became the first repeat CACC Women's Tennis Player of the Year since 2011-12 after completing her second consecutive unbeaten league season at 7-0. She is now a perfect 15-0 in her CACC career, with all 15 wins coming at No. 1 singles.

Miletic completed the 2017-18 season with a team-best 13-6 singles record, and also went 12-10 in doubles play as part of the Devils' No. 1 pair with Abbygail Gamarnik. She advanced to the Quarterfinals of the ITA East Regionals in both the singles and doubles bracket.

Novak also nearly has a near-perfect GPA of 3.92, with four perfect 4.0 GPA semesters during his time at USciences. The Biochemistry major has achieved Dean's List Honors in each of his six semesters. He was recently named to his second consecutive CACC All-Academic Team, with his 3.95 GPA through the Fall 2017 semester coming in as the highest in the league.

On the court Novak led University of the Sciences with eight doubles wins in 2017-18, all of which came with partner Nathan Nguyen as the duo was the Devils' No. 1 pair. They won two matches in CACC play, and also advanced to the Round of 16 with two victories at the ITA East Regionals.

The junior was also second on the team with four singles victories, including winning two first flight matches, as he split time between No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
