WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The University of the Sciences volleyball team hung tough with West Chester early, before the Golden Rams pulled away for a sweep of the Devils in non-conference on Tuesday evening.
The two teams shared seven ties early in the first set, with USciences taking its first advantage at 10-9. The Devils led by as many as three, 14-11, after back-to-back kills by Natalia Velez and a bad set, but WCU would go on to score the next six points to take control in an eventual 25-16 first set win.
The second set was close as well, with the score 11-10 West Chester after yet another Velez kill, before the Golden Rams took seven of the next eight points.
After pulling away for a 25-18 second set victory, WCU took set three 25-6.
Velez fell one kill shy of a match-high with nine, while Sarah Miller was second on the team with seven kills, to go along with a team-best eight digs.
Angeli Roman Medina had a team-high 20 assists.
University of the Sciences is back on the road to play three matches at Frostburg State this weekend, the first coming on Friday, Sept. 13 against Alderson Broaddus at 8 p.m.
