After serving three years an assistant coach and one year as the interim head coach, Smith was promoted to head coach prior to the 2018 season.

In her first two seasons at the helm of the program, Sarah Miller led the NCAA in service aces per set in 2017, while both Cassandra Moy and Caelin Jaskot have both entered the program’s single-season record book for assists per set.

Smith brought 15+ years of coaching experience to USciences, having started coaching right out of high school for her local middle school program. She quickly moved up through the ranks, taking charge of the freshman team as well as becoming an assistant for the varsity program.

In 2005, she made the move to the East Coast and quickly immersed herself in the volleyball community. After being hired at Division III Rutgers-Camden in 2007 and spending two seasons with the Scarlet Raptors, she moved on to another NCAA Division III program at Rowan University in 2009, where she stayed for one season.

Smith has also coached at the club level, having worked with East Coast Crush Volleyball Club (2008-2012) and Quandomania Volleyball Club (2012–2017), having also served as the social media and communications director for the latter.

She is still extremely active as a player, serving as the head coach and captain of the adult women’s club, Hi-Ya! Volleyball Club. She has traveled to USAV Nationals with the team for five years, finishing in the top-20 in the nation on numerous occasions.

Originally from Michigan, Smith played volleyball all four years in high school and earned numerous varsity letters and all-conference mentions.

She graduated from Grand Valley State University in Michigan with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public and Nonprofit Administration.

Smith currently works for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation as a manger of community engagement.
