PHILADELPHIA – Head University of the Sciences Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Yvonne Harrison has announced the hiring of Matt Gilmore as the new assistant men's and women's cross country and track & field coach.
Gilmore comes to USciences after spending two seasons as the assistant men's and women's track & field coach, specializing in sprints, relays, hurdles, jumps and throws, at fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) member Chestnut Hill.
Prior to Chestnut Hill, he spent a year as the head men's and women's track & field coach at School Without Walls High School in Washington D.C., where he gained experience in coaching distance as the only member of the coaching staff.
Gilmore was an accomplished student-athlete at Penn State University, most notably as a member of the 4x200m relay team that broke collegiate indoor record with a time of 1:24.70.
He also ranks in the top-five of the program's history in both the indoor 4x400m relay and the outdoor 4x400m relay.
Gilmore also won a Big Ten title during his time at Penn State, running the 400m leg on the DMR at the 2013 Championships.
His success is not limited to the collegiate level, as he captured gold in the 400m at the 2011 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Championships, as well as the silver in the 200m running for Cheltenham High School.
Gilmore has earned several certifications from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), including his track & field technical certification, strength & conditioning coach certification, sprint, hurdle & relay event specialist certification, and jumps specialist certification.
He has also achieved Level 1 certification from USA Track & Field.
Gilmore received his Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications & Liberal Arts.
